Manchester China Forum

The Manchester China Forum (MCF) is the public-private, special purpose vehicle for driving forward the Manchester-China relationship. Since its establishment in 2013, the Forum has been acclaimed as a unique initiative which takes a holistic approach, ensuring that the growth opportunities between Manchester and China, make the most of the city’s diverse network of assets.

The Forum aims to ensure that Manchester makes the most of the opportunities which China’s rapid growth presents, and to create enduring partnerships with businesses, organisations and institutions across China. In the six years since its creation, engagement driven by MCF has been successful in delivering two direct routes to China from Manchester Airport, a landmark visit from China’s President Xi Jinping to the city in 2015, and two visits to China by both the Mayor of Greater Manchester and Salford.

By fostering both connectivity and high-level engagement, the city region has seen a dramatic increase in its commercial and cultural activities with China, across a broad range of strategically important sectors such as technology, low carbon, life sciences and advanced materials as well as soft-power assets such as sports, music and education.
